“And the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits,
to prostitute himself with them,
I WILL SET MY FACE AGAINST THAT PERSON
and cut him off from his people.”
Leviticus 20:6
Visiting a medium or fortune teller is so serious in the eyes of the Lord that he warned his people that he would SET HIS FACE AGAINST THEM should they venture into this realm. The seriousness of the penalty indicates how abominable this sin is before the Lord. And why? Because it’s spiritual adultery.
There are two sources of supernatural power, the supernatural power of God and the supernatural power of Satan. When a medium “channels” information, the information is coming from the demonic realm. Satan knows the history of the man or woman seeking a word from channelers and mediums, and he can give such precise information that the person is stunned by its accuracy and falls prey to it, becoming totally deceived.
One thing must be remembered and that is that visiting a medium brings a curse not only upon the one visiting, but upon his or her children down to the third and fourth generation. This principle is repeated in several places in the Scriptures. For a list of specific sins involving the occult, see Deuteronomy chapter 18, beginning with verse 9. Note in verse 12 that the Scripture says that the person getting involved in any of these practices, THAT PERSON is an abomination to God. If you have been involved in any of these things, you are an abomination to God and he will set his face AGAINST you.
“And you shall not walk in the statutes
of the nation which I am casting out before you;
for they commit all these things, and therefore I abhor them.”
Leviticus 20:23
Never forget that Satan is called “the god of this world” (2nd Corinthians 4:4). Any involvement with him or his kingdom is considered spiritual prostitution. The believer belongs to God and is not to in any way entangle himself in the world of the occult or in the teachings or practices of the so-called “New Age” movement. It’s all abomination. And it’s deadly.
The “New Age” practitioners attract people by making it sound incredibly alluring. People won’t be attracted to what they know is evil, so Satan makes sure that what they teach sounds wonderful. They draw people away from the living God and into deception, and ultimately into destruction. Examples of these are the teachings of Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson, Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Dr. Mehmet Oz. These are masters of the “New Age” movement, but there are many others. They are servants of Satan himself, regardless how wonderful they sound.
vs 27:
“A man or a woman who is a medium, or who has familiar spirits,
shall surely be put to death; they shall stone them with stones.”
We no longer impose the death penalty on such things, but the Word of God has made it very clear that the world of the occult is deadly. I have watched this over many years and have seen that the results of this kind of involvement. The curse that accompanies it often comes as mental illness or premature death, sometimes both, oftentimes in the person’s children, and goes down to the third and fourth generation of anyone involving himself in these things. Turn away from these things and confess them as sin before the Lord. And pray for mercy.
